A little bit about me: One year ago I was sitting in a posh office in downtown London, about to start my life in the business world. And then catastrophe struck: I downloaded an MP3 onto my computer at work. Harmless, don't you think? Two days later I found myself fired, fined, and jailed. Collateral damage of the digital age.
So here I am, living to New York City with my childhood friend Henry, making a go of it in the blogosphere. Enjoy the posts, and feel free to drop me a line!

A little bit about me: Hello, Internet! It's me, Henry Scott. You've probably heard of me. If not, here's a primer. I've been a stand-up comedian in London for the past few years, before I realized my true calling: blogging. I didn't like the comedy world much anyway. Too many agents. I hate agents. In November 2005 me and my best buddy Mark packed up for New York City, and here we are, proud parents of BathTubYoga. What else? I like Ginkgo Biloba and Ginseng, and women love me.

For the past week or so, Manhattan has found itself in the midst of a very pleasant Native American summer. As I type, grainy sunlight is filling the room with a muted glow as it pours in through a small window behind my desk.
Despite my usual ignorance to American politics, I have been following the confirmation process of Samuel Alito very closely. Much has already been made about his ability to be a swing vote in a number of key issues from abortion to campaign finance reform, but all I can see in this process is a government and country so thoroughly polarized that they lose sight of the middle ground altogether. If the Democrats in the senate decide to filibuster and the Republicans choose to employ their nuclear option (which does not seem out of the question at this point) George Bush could truly be left with half a country to govern.
Sorry to go all de Toqueville on you; it won't happen again. Just so you can be comforted that I haven't become high brow overnight, I also watched a lot of pretty graphic pornography today.

there is no middle ground except in the feeble minds of dc consultants. 'middle ground' is a euphemism for ambitious and unprincipled politics, and even if there were a middle ground the republicans have long moved it so far to the right as to be indistinguishable. the alito confirmation process will highlight that republicans only intend to govern half the country, the rest of us might as well go to hell. their campaign strategies of the past 10 years (and especially last year) were based on polarization and base turnout--fine-tuned to temporarily convince around 51% of the electorate to support them (of course, as you fellows ought to know, this sort of bullshit would be almost impossible in a solid parliamentary democracy).
